Hilton Head Harbor Town's Gregg Russell
Harbor Town's Famous Local Singer
If you have ever booked a trip to Hilton Head's Sea Pines Resort area and walked by the old Liberty oak tree in Harbor Town just after dinner then you would not have missed Gregg Russell. For 30 years, he has performed children's songs to the delight of parents and children alike. He is wacky, fun and all a little too brilliant. And he is FREE! And parents can sip on a nice cocktail, enjoy the evening as their children sit up on stage and are entertained by this local icon, then walk back to their condo and tuck the kiddos snugly into bed!
Make the Trip to Hilton Head
First, I can't believe it took us this long to visit this great little area. But it is now our number one vacation spot for the family. Sea Pines in Hilton Head has it all. Jogging/bike paths that take you straight to the beach, Harbor Town with a great playground, ice cream shops, entertainment, rocking chairs, food and drinks. It is the single most family friendly place next to Disney that we have traveled to.
But then there is the added excitement of Gregg Russell serenading your children as they giggle, dance and sing. Yes, you will hear "Purple People Eater", "There's a booger in my sugar no it's snot", "Are we there yet, are we there yet" sung until your ears fall off on the 20 hour ride back home. But its worth the belly laughs from your kids and the memories you will build.
If your child wants to be picked to sing with Gregg, they need to have a sign, a song and have the nerves of steel to sing in front of a crowd. Kids come on stage with all sorts of signs from "Pick Me" written on an old beer box to long notes and old memorabilia. If they really want to get picked, make it good and creative.
His jokes while seasoned give everyone the giggles. Little girl with a yuppie name; she will be serenaded to the song "Yupidee Doo Dah" ; drive from Ohio in a dark van? He will point out that you are in the majority. Are your parents weird? Well that's because the kids made them weird. But oh the fun in it all! Corny, a few old jokes but a great delivery, sea breeze in your face, starry evening and happy kids, how could you not have a great time!
